Why a special ESD for logistics processes?

The training is aimed specifically at employees working in the field of logistics and imparts the necessary knowledge for handling batteries in incoming goods, storage and shipping.

The course teaches the fundamentals of electrical engineering, the basics of handling cells, modules and batteries in goods receiving, warehousing and shipping. This training places a special focus on the awareness of hazards caused by electric current, hazardous substances (hydrofluoric acid, oxyhydrogen, phosphine) and special regulations for handling dangerous goods.


What competencies can you achieve through this training?

The ESDs, trained by ITW-Schindler GmbH, do not replace Electrics Specialist (ES) battery technology, but complement and relieve them in the area of routine activities, which are adequately covered by risk assessments and work instructions.

The training does not replace individual instruction but can complement it optimally by using the actual processes and work instructions.

We recommend ordering our ESD battery technology training course in combination with our Battery Guideline in order to be able to document the processes with a view to these and other accompanying measures.

The training includes the following modules:

  • Basic electrical engineering
  • Basic knowledge of hazardous substances
  • Basic knowledge of dangerous goods transport


  • Common work processes and precautionary measures in the area of incoming goods
  • Common work processes and precautions in the field of storage
  • Common work processes and shipping precautions


Tasks of a specialist for defined jobs are e. g.

  • work for defined jobs (similar, repetitive activities according to work instruction)
  • Carrying out work without tension, contact person for workshop employees within the scope of the specified activities
  • Checking battery systems for their proper condition by means of aids provided (checklists, instructions etc.) under the supervision and guidance of a CESC (Chief Electrics Specialist in Charge) / ES (Electrics Specialist and the Dangerous Goods Commissioner battery technology

Electrics Specialist (ES) Battery Technology

Why a special ES for Battery Technology?

The training for an Electrics Specialist (ES) battery technology is excellently suited for persons who are active in the field of development and production of lithium ion batteries. In order to participate in the training, the participant must also already be an ESD (Electrics Specialist for defined activities) of battery technology or can prove a professional education in the field of electrical engineering including work experience and thus master the basic electrical knowledge.

The ES automotive engineering training to date has been specially designed for the vehicle itself, while ES battery technology focuses directly on the battery from cell to battery planning, battery transport and battery disposal. Another special feature of this training is the direct integration of the topic LW (Live-line work).


What competencies can you achieve through this training?

Following on from the ITW-Schindler Training ES battery technology, the participant has the consulting expertise for HV battery systems. The responsibility of the electrician is described in the following regulations. Definition of the technical scope of responsibility: Basis ECE R100, organizational responsibility (DGUV-V 3, § 4), control (DGUV-V regulation 3, § 5), planning, supervisory, management and specialist responsibility (VDE 1000-10), ensuring the implementation of the regulations of the DGUV Information 200-005.

Tasks of a qualified electrician battery technology can be for example:

  • Activities in the technical scope of the ECE R100 on the lithium-ion battery
  • Implementation and assurance of requirements related to high-voltage (HV) battery systems
  • Obligation to remedy recognizable breaches of security regulations regardless of their own area of responsibility
  • Instruction for persons in high-voltage battery environment
  • Instruction of persons in high-voltage automotive engineering
  • Creation of work instructions for ESD battery technology or technical support of the responsible area
  • carrying out and controlling the safety measures required for the respective work
  • Assistance with annual safety briefing and safety training when working on the lithium-ion battery
  • support in risk assessments
  • Monitoring proper installation, modification and repair of HV battery system equipment and test equipment
